Carrara Studio, You've Come So Far

In my younger days I was quite the penny pincher, trying to save a buck wherever I could and although not easy, I was able to produce some good work for a moderately strong portfolio. Of course using Rayman Studio and the rest of MetaCreations package left you with hardly anything to say when asked if you knew how to use any of the major programs, but at least you learned how to lie.

One of those programs, Carrara Studio is still on the market and still helping out kids like me with packages starting off at $250, and for that amazing price you can own all the benefits of past MetaCreations Applications (Insert used car salesman smile). Hit the link to check out the review.

Carrara's awesome for the price. There was at one point even a better deal for the cost of buying 3DWorld magazine. It was part of a promo, the tradeoff being a version behind with no support. But the good news was that you could upgrade at the same discount as you'd have if you purchased full at the time.

Oh yeah, Carrara also lets you render animations as a sequence of images. If you render a sequence to .tga with render alpha checked, it makes it with a transparent background. Doing something like a vehicle rotation or a walking character means you can add "3D" content to your Flash games with not too much effort. (Flash automagically recognizes image sequences when importing the first image to a movie clip.) A very cool feature indeed.

I thought I'd pass that along before I forgot to mention it.
